An advanced degree is preferred. A minimum of five years in major gift or gift planning fundraising with successful cultivating and soliciting experience and/or relevant financial planning, estate planning, or non-profit experience is required. Experience promoting and managing major gift or gift planning programs is highly desirable. Knowledge of the technical aspects of planned giving vehicles and proficiency in planned giving software (PG Calc or Crescendo) is desirable. Extensive knowledge of fundraising principles and techniques in a large organization is highly desirable and familiarity with Red Cross corporate culture is preferred. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including presentation, negotiation and strong interpersonal skills are required. Strong organization skills and good attention to detail are essential as well as demonstrated tact and diplomacy in difficult or sensitive situations. Familiarity with the Minneapolis and St. Paul area is beneficial. Knowledge of MS Office is necessary. A moderate amount (25-50%) of business travel is required. Job Description: Summary: The Gift Planning unit at the American Red Cross seeks to secure planned gifts supporting any component of the organization s mission and to establish the Red Cross as the charity of choice for such gifts. The Gift Planning Officer is a field position that develops, designs and implements the planned giving program in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area, focusing on new gift commitments for the organization. This role includes coordinating solicitation and cultivation strategies for all prospective planned giving donors in the jurisdiction of the Twin Cities Area Chapter and coordinating stewardship for donors who have made commitments. The Gift Planning Officer will be responsible for developing strategies to increase funding capacity and maximize donor relationships. Responsibilities: Develops and manages the gift planning strategy for a portfolio of prospects in the Minneapolis and St. Paul area, matching prospects needs to existing opportunities supporting the Red Cross. Develops seminars and recognition events; streamlines procedures for receiving, acknowledging and reporting life income gifts and expectancies; and takes primary responsibility for the stewardship of donors. Remains current in philanthropy developments and fundraising techniques by attending meetings and conferences and participating in training programs. Provides technical assistance to help the Twin Cities Area Chapter increase its fundraising capacity to solicit planned gifts. Compiles and analyzes chapter research about potential local contributors to recommend effective cultivation and solicitation strategies. Cooperates with various local financial planning and estate associations to plan meetings that maximize the Red Cross position as the charity of choice for endowments, life insurance policies, bequests and life income arrangements. Administers and reports all estate documents for the Twin Cities Area Chapter. Reports to the Manager of Gift Planning on a monthly basis about donor, chapter and gift activity. Submits quarterly review analysis and comments about performance goals.
